Dubai Freediving Competition

February 2, 2007 in Competition by Jorg Jansen

dubaicomp2007.jpgFor the first time, that I know of, there is a freediving competition going on in Dubai as I write this from February 1st untill 3rd. Not a normal static, dynamic and constant weight competition but a freediving competition with a special discipline; the freediver has to pull himself down a rope to a depth of 3 meters and stay there as long as they can. The nice thing is that the athlete is not allowed any equipment, no wetsuit, no goggles… yes a bathing suit is allowed.

So this sounds like a funny idea, and the most funny part is that they give the competition an extra touch by giving a brand new Range Rover! Okay, time to go to Dubai…

Update: The winners are here..
1st prize – Nadim Mazjoub; 3.36 min
2nd prize – Ihmied; 3.34 min
3rd prize – Bruce McClaren; 2.57 min
4th prize – Sara Lise-Haith; 2:33 min
And here a news article.

Update: My deepest apologies! I forgot to mention the only woman in this comp. There were more then 100 male contestants and only 1 woman participating. Sara Lise-Haith managed to get 4th with a time of 2:33 min. Of course excellent work and I guess she made a lot of men look very strange and humbled.
