David Blaine update: Competing in AIDA Comp
May 26, 2006 in Famous people, In the Media by Jorg Jansen
Already 2 weeks ago, the finale of David Blaine’s stay of 7 days underwater came to a climax with his attempt to hold his breath for 9 minutes while trying to free himself of some handcuffs and chains. You can watch the finale over here. You can see that the safety divers jump in at 7:06 to rescue him. He actually gets above water at 7:26. It’s wonderfull to see how Martin Stepanek is not only a world record holder freediver but a houdini by himself. It still puzzles me how he got the chains of David’s feet so fast!
Anyway, the whole freediving community was having some nice discussions about this matter and that he probably took oxygen before going under which makes the breathhold much easier. Apperantly David heard this and he said that he will show what he can do in a real AIDA competition. His real static personal best just before he started the show was 7:56 min. So we will see when and if this happens.
To complete the show here are 3 interviews with David from ABC, two during his stay in the fishbowl and 1 after it. You can watch them here, here and here. And if you read further you can read the transcript of the Larry King CNN interview with David.
