Longest Pool Ever!

October 5, 2007 in Freediving Spots by Jorg Jansen

san alfonso lagoon

So how long is the longest swimming pool and where is it located? Well, it’s located at San Alfonso del Mar in Chili. Take a look at this link to see the swimming pool through a satellite view. Entrepreneur Fernando Fishmann has created a very big resort with a 1 kilometer long pool.

longpool2.jpgAfter the last building phase the lagoon has reached its final size, over one kilometer long, 8 hectares in surface and 2.5 million liters of water. Too big to picture? Let’s put it this way: the size of the lagoon is equivalent to 64 regular 50 meter Olympic swimming pools!

longpool3.jpgYet, size being as impressive as it is, the lagoon’s highlight is the crystal-clear, tropical blue color of its water attained through some kind of leading-edge technology they call Crystal Lagoons. This allows to harvest, filter and permanently recirculate ocean water. Water temperature in the summer is 26ºC , nine degrees warmer than the ocean.

So, who will be the first to set a world record dynamic dive over here? You can contact management through their website. Let me know when you’re going!

Update Freedivingspots

August 6, 2007 in Freediving Spots by Jorg Jansen

freedivingspots.jpgHere is just a small update about our Freedivingspots service. At the moment the idea about what we want to do with this great service is pretty clear. In short it will mean we will integrate it as a building block in a new sort of freediving service framework that we are building at the moment. This in such a way that it will be very easy for other people to use and integrate on their own website/blog/forum. This service will be heavily based around google maps for pinpointing all the freedivingspots around the world. This together with other existing services like flickr, picassa and some other photo/video websites will make a comprehensive database with info, pictures, videos about the different spots around the world.

You can expect a limited public beta of this new services in around two months time. In the mean time I will keep everybody informed about the progress and put some screenshots online as soon as I have some decent stuff to show.

Freediving Spots

May 10, 2007 in Freediving Spots by Jorg Jansen

freedivingspots.jpgShark Freediving already has the latest freediving news, articles, a freediving calendar and many other stuff and projects going on. And now I’m proud to announce that we have a very well known website under our wings that will add an essential part to our information list; freediving spots. As of direct we take care of www.freedivingspots.net to further develop it and integrate it in some other projects we are working on.

The original owner and developer of the website, Jaap Voets, is happy we take his website under our management so he knows for sure it’s in good hands. Freedivingspots and Shark freediving together can act as an excellent source of freediving information. If it is news, articles, links to interesting website, freediving spots around the world, and who knows what more… If you got any ideas you can put them below in the comments and we will take them in review. In the coming weeks we will add/change already some small parts so it will fit better in the shark style. In the mean time, just keep adding spots, commenting on excisting ones and finding other freedivers in your region!
