Yesterday Christian Ernest set a new world record in the very special discipline ‘unashamed’ at the Bahamas competition site. In short: no fins, no nothing, just your naked body, diving down to 50 meters! Judge Clara Hansson had a hard time staying concentrated.

It’s always funny to see some “freediving” news in the media. This time Hungarian escape artist David Merlini claims a new world record by doing a 10:17 “static” escape stunt. He did this chained and handcuffed today in a glass tank in Hollywood, California. Yesterday he also attempted to break ”the record” (whatever it is) but came out after 1:12 min due to cold water.
So what do we think about it? Ofcourse he didn’t reach it by following the AIDA rules, but it gets media attention. Lots of bubbles in the tank… Maybe David Blaine knows how he did it!

On Saturday evening William Winram set a new world record in the discipline DNFNA. This happened during the RMC 2007 competition in Wiesbaden, Germany, and it took William 1:58 min to reach the distance of 114 meters. Congrats William on this amazing dive! Tomorrow there will be an extensive report about the whole competition that took place over there. In the mean time you can watch William’s performance below.

Last week I posted my idea for an ideal freediving spot. Too bad the video was removed from Youtube, but… I found another copy of it again, including 8 minutes more footage. It’s funny, but there is a big fetish for girls holding their breath or in a wetsuit, because you wouldn’t believe how many fetish websites link to my site, and more specific some posts about freediving woman.
There are also many many video’s on Youtube featuring woman who hold their breath. Any freediving girls out there who want to earn some extra money? There is really a market for eveything…

There are always two people standing out and entertaining the freedivers and crowd with their humor and fun ideas during big international competitions; Pierre Frolla from Monaco and Kazuaki “Kaz” Ichikawa from Japan. The following video are bits and pieces about these two that were left, just a quick edit.
For the people who where at the world championships in Renens and Nice in 2005 they will for sure remember some of the shots. For the people who weren’t there; This is probably a quite realistic snapshot of the atmosphere at these big international freediving competitions! Always great fun and I’m already looking out for going to the world championships in Maribor in Slovenia in 3 weeks. Enjoy the clip!
