Betti Wolfer

Betti Wolfer

Betti Wolfer set a new Swiss record in Free Immersion with a dive to 53 meters. Wendy Timmermans made a new Dutch record in the constant no fins discipline with a 43 meter dive.

With the men Akim Adhari from Tunisia set a new national record with a constant weight dive to 73 meters. There seems to be no AIDA Tunisia available to register this record and I don’t know if national record with penalty points are accepted? How does this work in other countries?

Also Miguel Lozano set a new Free Immersion record for Spain, with a dive to 70 meters. Alon Rivkind from Israel did a constant weight dive to 58 meters and also took a new national record.

Great start for a first day I must say. Sara Campbell didn’t start today, but she announced the same depth of 75 meters for tomorrow. See the rest of the announcements below.

National Record Attempt Unsuccesful

September 17, 2006 in Dutch Record by Sanne

peter_wurschy_130m.jpgDuring the introduction day for diving club DTH (NL), Peter Wurschy attempted to break his current Dynamic with Fins National Record of 146m (announcement). After the final preparations for the attempt had been made, Peter did his warming-up laps. Earlier that evening, his team members were trying to reach him, as there was no sign of him on the official warming up time. But as his coach, Gonnie Roekevisch, turned up at the pool, they knew Peter had arrived aswell. After the final warming up lap had been finised, coach Gonnie informed the judges it would not be long for his 1st attempt.

Around 20:40, Peter immerged for his National Record attempt. Being watched by a curious crowd, he turned his way through the 25m pool. With a new type of mono-fin and a different technique as he usually shows in competitions, he turns up at a nice 130m. peter_wurschy_130m_ok.jpgAs he awaits the final judgement of the jury, a thought rushes through his mind to relax which made him immerge his mouth in the water… As soon as he made the mistake, he lifts his head and starts laughing, already knowing the consequence. “I wouldn’t be lauhging this hard, when this happend at 150m, but…”, Peter says to the crowd.

As the judges inform if he wants a second try, he agrees and prepares himself for another go. But as he went into the 2nd try, he could not find his realxed in-flight-feeling again. Making him terminate the 2nd try resurfacing at 75m.

Whilst climbing out of the water, he told his team members, that Wiesbaden would be the place for his goal. So we’re all anxious to see what the competition in Germany brings.

On september 17th Team ATA member Peter Wurschy will try to break his own national dynamic with fins record of 146 meters. We keep you up to date on his attempt and the final result! I wish Peter and his team good luck with his preparation and attempt and I have no doubt he will do 150 meters.

Dordtdive 2006

June 4, 2006 in Competition, Dutch Record, Sharkbait by Jorg Jansen

dd2006_design.jpgToday was again the fourth edition of the excellent Dordtdive competition, taking place in dordrecht, the Netherlands and organised by Roger Keizer from waves.nu. As always organisation and timing was excellent and many people enjoyed the competition.

Biggest story of the competition was definately Henk van Greevenbroek who entered the competition as a complete newbie and for his first competition and not only won the competition but also took the national record for dynamic without fins with a distance of 119 meters. His static was even so impressive with a time of 6:26 min. Very curious about what the guy will accomplish in the future. It’s clear that the Netherlands has gained another top freediver under its ranks.

dd2006_prize.jpgSecond place in the mens competition was for Peter Wurschy from Team ATA with a 5:45 static and a 123 dynamic. Third place was for our own Sanne Buurma (Team Sharkbait) with an excellent 5:20 static and 120 meters dynamic. You can read his own report over here.

Solenn Launay from France was the winner with the womens ranking with a static of 4:12 and 100 meter dynamic. Second place was for Renate de Bruyn with a 3:28 static and a 118 meter dynamic, which could have been a new national record. Wasn’t it for the foot that came out of the water which gave her a penalty and therefore no new national record. Third place was for Susan Kluytmans with a 4:19 and a 71 meter performance.

dd2006_pool.jpgOne special prize that Roger has invented for his competition is the newbie cup, a seperate ranking for people who will do their first competition. This was actually won by Henk van Greevenbroek, but because he already won the overall ranking, he was excluded from the newbie cup. So finally the newbie cup was won by Simon Kasper with a 4:18 static and a 63 meter static.

As always this competition was again a great succes with the 30 competitors who participated, and will probably come back next year! Complete ranking can be found here.
