Vertical Blue 2010 – Clash Of The Titans

February 20, 2010 in News by Jorg Jansen

Just received an email from William Trubridge announcing the Vertical Blue competition of this year. And wow, it will be very special!

The competition takes place from April 17 to 27 and will have a very special competition format. All three disciplines will take place during this comp and the special thing is that Martin Stepanek, Herbert Nitsch and William Trubridge will compete against each other during this event!

This already impressive field will be completed by divers like Guillaume Nery, Ryuzo Shinomiya, Dave Mullins, Walter Steyn, William Winram and Robert King.  All in all it looks like it’s going to be the deepest competition of the year!

Herbert Nitsch and William Trubridge decided that the world championships were not enough to cover their need for records. They both announced several freediving record attempts for the week after the world championships at the same location, Dean’s Blue Hole in the Bahamas.

From December 6 till 12 Herbert Nitsch announced record attempts in Free Immersion, Constant weight with and without fins and Variable Weight (currently at 140 meters by Carlos Coste).

In that same week William Trubridge announced Constant without fins, Free Immersion and Variable Weight as well.

I’m curious what is coming. Fact is that whatever record will be broken during the world championships, it won’t hold long with these two amazing freedivers attempting some deep divers in the week after!
